This could be called the "Best of the Adirondacks Tour," because you'll ride a winding route through lush valleys and along the lake shore all the way to one of the tallest mountains in the Adirondacks, Whiteface Mountain. There, you'll climb thousands of feet up the toll road (we pay your toll for you) to the top of the Adirondack Mountains on five miles of newly paved riding heaven. It's a great ride! The views are absolutely amazing, and on a clear day, you can see Canada and Vermont!
At the summit, a few things you don't often find atop a peak: a castle built from native stone, a restaurant and gift shop, an elevator carved deep inside the mountain top itself and a truly spectacular 360-degree, panoramic view of unparalleled beauty. The mountaintop elevator was created for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who was wheelchair bound and who wanted to be able to access this incredible view.
It's so good, we offer this tour with and without a guide. Your lunch stop is in Lake Placid, home to several Olympics, and one heck of a beautiful village. You'll have a great lunch in a local's favorite BBQ house. Everything is made from scratch, and you have the freedom to choose your menu using your Freedom Pass to pay for the first $15 of your meal. Any day, anytime.
WHAT IS AN UNGUIDED TOUR? (psst, it's your best bet to a great day of riding on your own.)
Americade UnGuided Tours are the best way to experience the Adirondacks or Vermont on your own or just with your friends, without worrying about finding good routes, smooth pavement, great scenery and good food! We've done all the planning for you, including preriding all the routes and testing the great lunches (it's hard work, but someone has to do it...).
You leave on your own, follow the detailed maps we provide and arrive at the very special lunch destination where Americade staff will greet you. Enjoy a scrumptious buffet lunch with fellow Americaders and then fun door prizes provided by each sponsor are drawn. Round trip mileages are approximate.
So, if you're coming all the way up to the Adirondacks, why not guarantee yourself a great day of riding?
