[ALERT: The two best gaps on this ride were repaved within the past few months. We've decided to make this a Guided Tour in 2017, in addition to the perennial favorite Unguided High Gaps Tour.]
The Guided High Gaps MiniTour will take you into the heart of Vermont's Green Mountain range, home to some legendary mountain gap roads. It's an annual unguided favorite ride for Americaders, and we're certain that the guided version is one that you'll be glad you took. This guided tour also includes several additional special stops making for an incredible day of twisty roads and memorable destinations.
The morning begins with a ride along the shores of Lake George as you head north and east to Vermont. Among the many sights, you'll see before you enter Vermont will be many stunning lake views of Lake George, some fabulous winding roads, and scenic historic sights. Your morning stop will be unique, as we briefly stop among the historic ruins of a 1734 Revolutionary War fort. You'll stand below the crumbling walls on the shoreline, as Vermont's Green Mountains call to you.
Once in Vermont, you'll ride through the pastoral lands that make Vermont famous, but the real jewels lie ahead - the mountain gaps. Vermont's mountain range runs north-to-south, so to head east/west Vermonters had to build roads up and over the mountains. Some of these "gaps" are legendary (such as the "App Gap"), and some are less well known. This route takes you to the best. Get ready for twisty, winding, smooth and FUN roads. Beware, call your doctor if your grin lasts more than 4 hours. ( Some of these roads are wonderfully twisty, and we recommend an intermediate skill level or higher.)
Your lunch destination is a quaint, warm and inviting inn in central Vermont. It is a local icon because it inspired the Bob Newhart show. You'll dine on your choice of one of the following: Chicken in a Puff Pastry Shell, Salmon Picatta, or Vegetarian Pasta. Lunch also includes Black bean soup and for dessert Gingerbread with Caramel Sauce and Cinnamon Whipped Cream.
After lunch, your guides will take you through one of the most remarkable covered bridges in Vermont, followed by a homeward ride through Vermont's beautiful farmland. It will be a gentle, picturesque ride back to Lake George, offering a perfect end to an exciting day of riding the Gaps.
WHAT IS A GUIDED TOUR? (psst, it's your best bet to a great day of riding.)
Americade Guided Tours are group rides, with at least two tour guides, and are based on what we love about riding (great Scenery, excellent and smooth roads, low traffic and interesting stops). And, we find excellent lunch stops, and negotiate great food prices for you. They are an Americade specialty and allow you to relax & ride, while our friendly guides lead you to the destination where a great lunch awaits you. Our guides provide some commentary via CB. Don't worry about maps, traffic, getting lost, breakdowns or finding a great lunch spot - We've got you covered.
Your day will begin by meeting your guide in the morning on the shores of Lake George, "The Queen of American Lakes" (according to Thomas Jefferson) surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains. We're confident that there is no prettier place to begin a ride. Once you meet your guides, your group will head out at a relaxed pace with your guides leading and following the group. Stops will take place at about an hour into the ride, and after lunch. During the ride, feel free to ask your guides questions, via CB radio.
So, if you're coming all the way up to the Adirondacks, why not guarantee yourself a great day of riding?
